Bicycle Mechanics - how do i know if i have the right wheel size?

i have a bike... ill put up pictures soon. It came with 26" wheen (used of course) and 170mm cranks but I scrape my pedals on turns very easily... its not a big deal as its a city bike but how do i know if its the crank length or wheel size that is off.

measure the radius ... axle to inside of the fork crown or
rear bridge between either of those tubes..

and bb to ground, and pedal at the bottom of stroke to ground.

and report back ..

If it has anything other than disc brakes wheel size has to be close to correct or the brakes would not work unless it has been fitted with very long reach caliper brakes or the frame has been modified by a frame builder to relocate brake bosses.

Another thing that can lead to easy pedal dragging is some old very wide pedals such as the "counterbalanced" pedals of the 1970s or so. Combine those with much narrower than originally fitted tires and you have a recipe for pedal drag. I just bought an old Nishiki with counterbalanced pedals still installed.

you could coast thru corners , and bring the pedal closest to the inside of the corner up.

It's what most people do .. Shift your weight to the outside pedal .
.. it lowers the C of G a bit.
