I got a Truvativ Gigapipe BB on my LeMond, and I got the hankering to take it out and see if I can clean it up and relube it. Are these BBs serviceable or they're a one-time deal like Shimano? Also, I read SRAM's tech pages and they call for SKF LGHP 2 polyurea grease. Can I use a non *cough*bike-specific*cough* polyurea grease like Mobil Polyrex EM/Chevron SRI #2 or clean out the bearings and use Red Line CV2 grease which is synthetic, contains red moly and thickened with calcium complex soap?

I can get the Mobil cheap through Grainger.

I wasn't sure myself. I caved and bought the SKF LGHP 2 from reliabilitydirectstore.com. For a 1kg can it'll last me the rest of my lifetime and it only cost $24 for 1kg (too bad the shipping cost $20 2-day Fedex, only option).

I can mail you a small jar of LGHP 2 if you want to sample it.

Any grease at the auto or bearing store will be fine for our use. I started using Lubriplate EMB years ago and it works. Costs about $3.00 a tube.

Nor can I. I've been around since 2005, but I don't post much.
