Could anyone please tell me if Shimano FH-6208 is compatible with modern cassettes or if I have to replace the hub when I am buying new chainrings later on?

If it is a cassette hub, it is Uniglide and is not compatible with Hyperglide cassettes. Uniglide cassettes and loose cogs are available at www.loosescrews.com but selection is pretty limited. You can also upgrade to Hyperglide - see http://www.sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#uniglide

Hmm, strange, I have been doing some ocular research and it seems to be a hyperglide freehub atleast... maybe some one have done a transplant or maybe I am a idiot, the last is not entirely impossible. :)

Yeah, maybe it's already had a Hyperglide freehub body transplanted onto it.
I found a couple 6208 hubs on eBay. They are listed as 6-speed. Shimano never offered 6-speed Hyperglide so these are Uniglide.

If there is a cassette on the hub, and it is fastened with a lock-ring, it is Hyperglide. If the last cog threads onto the freehub body, it is Uniglide.
If there is no cassette, take a look at the slots and tabs on the freehub body. If one of the slots is wider than the rest and one of the tabs is slimmer than the rest, it is Hyperglide. If they are all exactly the same, it is Uniglide.

Another question then, if I go from uniglide to hyperglide, do I have to change the front chainwheels or can I use my old uniglides? It shouldnt be a problem but I better ask for some second opinions :)
