Hi,

I just got a set of Zipp brake blocks, and they don't have any slots for the retention screw! I can't imagine it's safe to ride without retention screws. How are these intended to work?

These are intended to stop the bicycle while moving forward. They should not be used to stop a bicycle going in reverse.

Just screw the screws in a bit to mark the pads, take them back out, and drill a little hole in them a little ways. Then put them back in and put the screws in. That'll hold them just fine.

It's possible to hold the brakes and roll the bike back, so without retention screws, that could inconveniently slide the pads out.

closed end of 3 sided brake shoe holders should always face forward,
as that is where the stopping energy needs a backup.
