just got my fuji track pro in the mail yesterday, and i am scared to death to cut the seat mast myself! so i am looking for a shop to do it for me. for a shop to do it they would need to do some sort of fit am i correct?

so i figured i would just go ahead and pay for a full bike fit and have them cut the seat mast too.

i would be hard pressed to find a shop near me that even had a track bike on the showroom, let alone one that does fittings for them.

there are plenty of shops that do road or TT/tri fittings, and seems that i have found a few that are pretty good at them.

so i guess im asking what constitutes a track specific fit? what should i be looking for and asking when trying to find a shop to do one for me?

Everything I have heard or read so far says the opposite; that comfort is not as primary a concern on the track as it would be on the road due to the short length of events.

I contacted my local track by email, guess I should just wait to hear from them and stay off the internet lol

It's all relative. While true that you won't be doing 100 miles at a time on the track, you will definitely see 5- or 10-mile races. So you don't need the same comfort level as your La-Z-Boy recliner. But you will want to be comfortable enough to hold your race position for more than a couple minutes.

Also in track racing your pretty much in the exact same possition for the entire race, where as in road racing you have a variety of places to put your hands, and your back is at many different angles.

Generally you can start with your road position or something pretty close and then tweak things based on your style of racing. I don't know that there's really a "track specific fit" - it depends on the kind of riding you're doing and how you in particular are comfortable.

When I got a frame with an integrated seat mast it was only after I'd been riding a long time and cutting it wasn't a big deal (other than measuring accurately). I just matched the position to my old bike.

And comfort does matter. Training sessions can be hours long, and races can be up to an hour. We pretty regularly do hour-long practice madisons and have plenty of races in the P/1/2 field that are 20-30 km.

Truth. No such thing as track specific fit. Unless you're trying to dial in a pursuit position or something. If you're doing mass start races, just get as comfortable as possible.

Distance racers (points, Madison, etc) usually use their road positions or close to it. Sprinters will usually use a very low and forward position. (Image your road position if you fitted a smaller front wheel.)

What are you planning on doing?
