Folding Bikes - How many bikes can you fit into your car? We packed __ of Abio's in a Mini Cooper!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We wanted to see how many folding bikes we can fit into a small compact car - boss has Mini Cooper and was easily convinced to participate in our experiment.

We round up a bunch of Abio bikes and the final figure came up to.....

BEFORE:
171128

171127
AFTER:
171131
171129 171130
So in total we packed 5 (sorry no space for passengers)!

We managed three Bike Fridays and a full-sized road bike in our daughter's Saturn Outlook, PLUS all four riders!

When doing Sag duty for our club's organized century I can carry 6 bikes and 4 riders plus myself in a Toyota Corolla sedan. 2 bikes on the roof, 3 on a trunk rack, and 1 inside the trunk. Works well in combination with a minivan Sag which can carry more people but not as many bikes.

I really prefer transporting bikes INSIDE our vehicles (yes, even in our Yaris Liftback). They are more secure and there is no damage from elements.

Recently took our 1 yr old Pocket 8's on a 7,600 mile cross-country trip and they still look new. I mounted them on a board to keep them from rattling. Worked great.

How about placing a fold-able Raleigh Twenty Stowaway inside a old classic 1960s UK made Mini Cooper-Austin or Morris? One of the requirements that my father wanted all my bikes to follow is this ability to tuck the bike safely inside the passenger area where people sit. Could anyone tell me if this is possible? That is the only unknown that I cannot test my "new" Twenty with as these same-age-as-this-bike Mini Coopers are very rare around here now. Could anyone please try this out for me if possible? I would appreciate this very much.

Dahon put 22 Curve D3s into a Prius a couple years ago.

Like Foldable-2, we were trying to keep the bikes inside the car. We had fun and shot a quick video.

Ff: Let us know if you're able to find someone with that combination!

tcs: I remember the Curves in Prius! That was more like what SunnyFlorida was comparing to ..."how many students can fit into a telephone booth" so there were no space for driver or anyone. Even dashboard space was fully utilized. I believe they used a Thule box on top too. Impressive either way.

Mazda Protege: Two Fridays (Pocket Rockets) on the back seat, food, clothes and camping/hiking gear for a week in the trunk and kayak on the roof. Plenty of room for the wild blueberries on the way back.
