Foo - I need to pay more attention. Forgot to grab him by his head.

Went to pick up my snake to put him in his feeding box (I feed them individually in a separate box so they don't go after the same prey) and I totally forgot that I now smell of rat.
So what does a hungry snake do? He bit me. It wasn't just a bite, it was a bite, hold and dig in deep type of deal. I held real still because if I move, he will clamp down even more. He unhitched one side of his jaw and tried to take in my hand. I still didn't flinch or try to fight him because those fangs were in all the way. Each time he unhitched and bit again, he got more of me into his mouth.
I think I have a total of 12 bites in a progressive pattern on the top and webbing of my hand. The pattern of blood is pretty cool too! :p
But now my hand is hella swollen.

I'd have a new set of boots. :innocent:
Made that mistake a couple of times (or more), especially when I was raising guniea pigs (for show) and she hit me once - and drew some blood. The last time - cause I made sure I remembered after that - was when she was about 8' and we were raising rats (food) and I had just cleaned them out and then went to clean out her cage ----- man alive her head whipped around and was alert - I snatched back my hand and slammed the door!
heh - I remembered that time from then on ---- most important when she was 10-1/2' and eating bigger things ...

At least your snake let go!! Well I got lazy because I've always just reached in and grabbed the snake. Gave too much room for him to turn around. Not only is my hand swollen but now it's itching.

have you treated it with topical antibiotic? snake bites, like lizards, can carry all sorts of bacteria.

Yikes!!
The worst I have gotten is from the claws of my turtle. She isn't a snapping turtle, but she could still nip a finger tip off without any effort if I gave her the chance.

I saw my friend's arm after he made a similar mistake, looked quite painful.
The snake struck at dinner(a rabbit) and got arm instead.

My 6 foot retic bit me once, same situation, started at my elbow and worked its way down to my hand, l did the same thing Siu did, lots of blood but no real damage. I also got stung by a Black Emporer Scorpion, bit by a Mexican Red legged Tarantula, a SnowFlake Eel, and a few other misc fish and lizards. :twitchy:

Cheese and crackers, and I thought I'd had a rough day.
