Bought it today. Love this bike! First mountain bike for me. Going to start doing some trail riding with some experienced riders from work.

I've got one, too! Except mine's the gold, silver, black. Too bad I don't have a good picture. Great bike!

I have the exact same bike. I havn't hit the trails yet and I am hoping it does well. I stepped up from a raleigh M40 that I bought last year. I sold it to my nieghbor for $220.00.

I just got that very same bike on Sunday (5/12/02) how's yours working out??? I am hoping to hit some very easy trails this weekend!!

Is it just me, or do you feel validated when other people buy the same bike you have, especially when you are new to the sport??

Yes it is nice to see others with the same. My husband got the Giant Yukon and we went out to the Sand Hill trail around here and saw 4 people with the same bike! Strange!

Well, I finally got to hit some trails with the bike. I have been riding trails near home in Holly Mich. at least two to three times a week. It has been raining alot lately, so I have only been going about once a week for the last couple weeks though. The bike has been taking a beating, but handles very well. I have noticed that the seatpost keeps moving down on me while riding (hiting alot of roots, rocks, dropoffs <2ft. May need a new one or get one of those seatpost shocks to absorb the ass beating. I have heard alot of good things about them. Anyways, other then the seatpost, I love the bike. I will probably keep it for a while. On a budget after my new baby girl arrived. Take care and remember, " I'ts only funny until someone gets hurt, then its hilarious" :roflmao: j/k

gabiker is right that Trek is way to clean. Looks great though almost bought one myself, but didn't want to spend the extra money for disk brakes (it was the only one the shop had at the time) ended up with a Schwinn Mesa GSX. They are similar bikes but the Schwinn has Manitou shocks instead of the Rockshocks and it had a Deore front derailer instead of the Alivo if I remember correctly.

That's about the only difference in the Mesa GSX and the 4500. Actually the GSX is about the same as the Trek 4900 just a few upgraded components. Both very good bikes for the money though and I can assure you mine is getting plenty dirty. :D

That is gorgeous bike! If you don't mind me asking, how much $$$ did it set you back. I'm just shopping for a bike now. I have had a treck with no suspension, a Klein with front shocks, and various Schwinns. I don't know how low I can go on a tight budget. Plus I'd like to get one for my wife too. Have fun getting it dirty

Chris they sell for about $440 in the states, however you can shop around sometimes and find them for a little less. I got mine for $375. They are a great bike for the money and very upgradeable.

To correct the seatpost slipping, you can just roughen the seatpost with sandpaper, below the seat collar of course, and it will have a better grip on the frame.
