That is one happy little dog.
It's a nice idea, but it's got way too many exposed moving parts for it to be sold commercially (says the regulatory compliance engineer :P).

Ah the wonders of the microchip. These are pretty cool little devices. I am working on a project right now with one for a solar lighting system. The microchip monitors the voltage at the panel and when it drops below a settable level, a settable timer starts, when the timer expires the light turns on. And another timer starts. The voltage of the battery is monitored. The light turns off at the end of the timer or when the voltage of the battery drops below a predetermined level.
I thought that was a pretty cool project. This one is really cool. Some pretty ingenious coding. I like how it knows that the ball is no longer in the launcher and returns to start without going through the firing sequence.
I also like how the dog has learned either by sound or visual cue that the ball is about to be launched. If you notice he drops the ball, waits to see if it is loaded properly then takes off before the ball is even fired. He appears to do it when the machine makes a certain click.

Hmmmm, wonder if it can shoot out foil balls to it can keep my 1-1/2 yr old siamese happy. She starts meowing (on top my chest btw) at 6 am to get me going so I can play shoot the ball and retrieve it with her. She is quite the alarm clock!
hehe This would keep her busy while I get up and brush my teeth (or go back to bed ....)!

I figure that some plastic shrouding would fix that problem.
