Do these bikes usually come with 700c wheels?

Was thinking about buying it, but if it has 27" wheels, whats the disadvantages and advantages of 27 or 700c wheels?

Uh-oh, here we go again. (There was a big, flame-filled thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?679132-Who-else-thinks-that-27-quot-gt-700c)about this a little bit ago.)

It wasn't me! :p

But... IMO, there is no difference between a 700c and a 27" tire in the same brand and model, except a few mm. ;)

The biggest advantage of 700c over 27" is the availability of tires.

The biggest advantage of 700c over 27" is the availability of tires.

It's less about availability and more about selection. If you can't find 27" tires, you aren't looking hard enough (Wal-Mart even sells some). If you want race-worthy tires for your 27" bike, you might be in trouble though.

Well since i think the univega grand premio comes with araya rims and its a 1981 model... would that be 700c rims or 27" rims?

'81, likely 27's. Arayas are nice. Add some Panaracer Pasela's, and you're fine on the hoops.

on some 27" wheel frames, the existing brake calipers might not adjust down far enough to fit 700c rims.
