Anyone out there have any suggestions on long rides in the LA area?

I'm looking for rides in around the downtown area and (relative) vicinity, ... a friend and I cycled the Palos Verdes loop last weekend and it was a perfect workout ... but a little far away. Any recommendations for Downtown, Eagle Rock, Pasadena, East LA rides that are moderate/intermediate on the hills, but somewhat easy on traffic? The river paths are nice, but a little flat for what we're looking for. Anywhere in the 15-35 mile range is reasonable. I've been searching around and a Griffith Park ride is all I have found so far ... it's a nice ride, but I'm looking for other routes for variety.

Thanks

When up in LA I have taken my bike about Griffith park, Malibu..I hear great things about Palos Verde..Metrolink makes it easy to get your bike out of dodge. Riding Malibu west would be my favorite.

If you're free on Saturday mornings, there are a couple of group rides in So Pasadena, very large pack/ very fast paced and another, a smaller group/intermediate pace....30 to 40 mile loop. Both these rides take you east towards Irwindale and back.
On Sunday mornings from the zoo parking lot in Griffith Park, there are a couple or three different rides taking off, all different levels. One ride that I've done many times takes you thru Sunland and up thru Las Tunas Canyon, Montrose, to the Rose Bowl, and back to Griffith Park. This ride re-groups a couple of times but it's fast paced...... lotsa stragglers like myself.

Every Tuesdays & Thursdays @6pm April through October, there's the Rose Bowl loop ride, one hour, 10 laps, 30 miles. These guys are fast. I can never hang with them....maybe 2 or 3 laps at best.
