Would it be a bad idea to purchase a longer shock with the same travel to raise my bb. Im always banging my pedals on rocks climbing technical trials and it kills your momentum. I do not not want to increase my rear travel since the shock has hte same travel i just would like to lower the bb a bit. My bike has 1 inch clearance for a longer shock.

If not is there another way to reduce banging the pedals on rocks. I think my cranks are already 170 and not 175mm. When i set the preload high i hit the rocks a lot less but then its basicly inactive. It barely sags when i sit on it.

Thanks for your help.

Yes it would be. By putting in a longer shock you are going to be voiding the warranty. Raising the bottom bracket is going to make the frame to be as flexy as a wet noodle. And where there is flex, there is going to be a crack eventually.

How much sag do you get in the rear shock? What sort of pressure range can you live with?

by raising the bb height you also lose some handling on the bike.

ITs a coil shock but i heard you should give your shock 1/3 sag. Is this not correct?

it's generally between 20-30%. but it really depends on the type of riding you're doing. you should check your shock manual to see what they recommend you set the sag at.

its a noleen coil over with only preload adj. I dont think the bike came with a shock manual unless its in the bike manual. Ill check when i get off work today. When i get more funds im going to purchase a new one anyhow. one with at least a rebound adj. But ill make sure its the same size :D
THanks for the replies.

A new shock would almost be the price of that bike....and kinda pointless. Not raggin on ya at all, I had a 2002 K2 Launch...good little bike. 12.3 inches is REALLY low, you could just buy a newer bike :D

Ya i know. When i said get a new one i meant new to me. I was just going to wait till i see a used one for cheap on ebay. Id be dumb to spend 300-400 on a new shock when I spent 400$ on the bike :D I already need to purchase a new front wheel since i bent it already. So just going to get a decent set for around 150$ And i can use them for what ever bike i have if and when i get a new one.
