Foo - Bic pens now open guncase locks as well
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i read that a guy in Iowa opened his guncase lock with a bic pen after reading about the now publicized kryponite lock incidents.

As previously stated in other threads, this matter is not restricted to just Kryptonite locks. Every major lock making company uses the exact same "tubular cylinder/push pin" design in several of their products. All of the newer Harley Davidson Motorcycles (1998-present) use this exact same design on the ignition and fork locks of each bike. I was able to unlock a H.D. 2004 V-Rod with the Bic Pen.
This is not a defect (since the locks still work like they are supposed to) but rather a design flaw (since they can all be so easily picked by the use of a Bic Pen).
Avoid buying or using any lock or keys that look like these (click links below)

If a thief gets to a gun safe, he's probably already circumvented some other locks to get inside your house. The two primary reasons for the safe are to keep your firearms from organized and safe from damage, and to keep little children out of them. By the time they figure out or hear about the bic pens, they're hopefully in their teens or later and the parents have taken the responsibility to teach them how to safely handle a firearm.
