hello there,

firstly, apologies for a perhaps frequent question, however, I am a complete bike noob.


An olympus road ace bike has recently come in to my possession - however the rear wheel is buckled and bent. Having asked a friend to identify any further issues with the bike, we have narrowed it down to a simple rear wheel and tyre change. I do not, unfortunately, know a great deal about bikes.

The measurements are for a 700C deep profile rim - according to the current wheels. Will a simple replacement to this measurement fit the back?

Tyre size is 700x28c eritire.

As a student - and inept individual regarding bikes - i'm after the cheapest possible replacement, but would consider paying extra for a quality rear wheel.

Outside a race setting deep profile is aestethics only, a shallow box-section will do just as well. 700C aka 622 mm is a good measurement to stay true to, as it means that the brakes will line right up. You will also want to match dropout width (remove wheel, measure from inside face to inside face where the axle goes). Might as well hunt for the best fit.
Then there's shifting. Least likelihood of hassle is if the replacement wheel has the same number of sprockets at the back as your current has. To do even better, tell us what kind of shifters you have, brand and number of speeds. Not all options are interchangeable.
