I want to upgrade the wheels on my outcast 29er. Problem is that 1, they have to be rim brakes. 2. it cant be a quick release due to horizontal dropouts. or can my lbs swap out the axles for me? here are the specs on the bike http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/outcast29_08.htm

Simplest soloution is to build your own, or have some custom built. Then you can have exactly what you want. You'll find that the quality of the build is more important than the price of the wheels or individual wheel components. Whenever I build offroad SS wheels, I use Alex Adventurer rims (a bombproof rim which can be bought for $20-$30), double butted Wheelsmith spokes, and a decent but innexpensive hub such as a Surly. You can buy more expensive parts, but none of it will really amount to a better wheel.

a decent QR is just as good as a set of track nuts.
