Bicycle Mechanics - retrofit Flat Bars on my road bike

I've a 2010 Spec. Secteur Elite I got last spring. Turns out I ain't a drop bar guy. I replaced the factory drops with a wider set and replaced the neck with a taller one.

I still never want to ride the bike, and always prefer my Globe or an old Raleigh road bike that I added Northroad bars. I like riding upright.

Before I sell the Secteur, I'm considering sticking on a pair of Funn FatBoys to give me a more upright position ala the Specialized Sirrus.

I'd like to use the 105 brifters on the new bars and am wondering if they will work, fit. etc? I realize they are made for drops, but should they work ok within their limits?

the diameter of the bar is different , consider Nitto Mustache bars if you want to re use your drop bar levers..

other than that consider bar end shifters and for the flat bars consider pauls thumbies to use the 9 speed bar con SIS mech as thumb shifters..

Though selling what you have and getting a flat bar Hybrid instead may be more suitable.

In addition to the difference in handlebar diameter, your 105 brifters will not work on a straight bar because the bar has to be curved to give enough room for the brake lever travel. It may be possible to mount your brifters on "Moustache bars", which are flat, but have a sharp bend where the bar sweeps back towards the rider, and this provides a place to mount the levers. I've seen it done before, but I'm not sure about the ergonomics of operating the shifters from that position.

To use straight bars, you're going to need a new set of brake levers (make sure that they're NOT designed for V-brakes, and are instead designed for road calipers / cantilevers) and a set of Shimano R770 trigger shifters.

just sell your shifters, you'll fetch plenty of money for them and flat bar shifters are a lot cheaper, just make sure your careful as sometimes they take a special fd that allows road sized chainrings but pulls at a different ration than a road FD

I don't think I'd sell the brifters just yet; if you decide you just don't like the bike and want to sell it, you'll need those.

Your brifters would technically fit the diameter of these bars, but I doubt seriously that you'd be able to find a position that would allow them to function properly and be ergonomically acceptable.

Try moustache bars... its a less expensive conversion than moving over to an Albatross bar.

I have an Albatross bar on my Lemond Zurich and after getting a Bontrager offset seatpost, the fit is now dialed in the way I like it by moving the saddle forward. This shortened the long top tube and now riding in an upright position is something I now look forward to on it.
