I bought a Schwinn "Lakeshore" cruiser about a month ago. I't got 7 gears and I've added a mirror, rack bag and new Schwinn gel seat. I've been riding it back and forth to work, every other day while my muscles build up and I've really been noticeing the difference.

I've had trouble with the Schmano derailer.. when I got it it wouldn't shift into the lowest gear.. took it to a local shop and they adjusted it. It worked for about a week, then the chain jumpped off the high gear sprocket on the way to work and I had a dirty time getting it back on and could only ride in 6th for the highest gear. Took it back to the shop and they adjusted it again. I called Schwinn and they are sending me a new derailer, but looks like I will have to pay to have it put on, if I can't figure out how to do it myself. Other wise, I really like the bike.

Would like to meet others in the Monterey area who like to ride together, but not dirt bike rideing or raceing bike fast rideing.

Not in Monterey by a long shot, just wanted to say cheers and welcome to Bike Forums!

:D

For joint rides, try posting in your appropriate Regional Forum. And the Bike Mechanics section can help you with the rear derailleur issues.

Thanks all, will look for the regional forum section. I took the replacement derailer that they sent me to a different bike shop and the guy seemed really knowledgable. He said it isn't the derailer, it's the cable.. he said they used a cheaper brake cable instead of a shifter cable and that that was causing the problems, along with the derailer arm being bent and not parallel to the gears. He will have it fixed by Wednesday.
