Hello all!
Been happily riding a Focus Lost Lagoon Hybrid/XC style bike on commute for 18 months now, just sold it on eBay and she will be missed.
However, on an upside I'm getting a £1k C2W voucher through work (work for RBS, have to go via Halfords) and, through talking nicely to the woman at Halfords, they have reserved me one of the Genesis AllCity Creative Flyers. Pretty please to have one reserved, however I'm still boggled by the choice of bikes available. I am well up for suggestions for as to what to get, if I get a cheaper bike I will definitely spend the residual voucher on upgrades.
I want recommendations basically. I will use the bike for a road based commute, which neatly doubles as my main exercise (I live 1.4 miles from work, but cycle nearly 8 miles each way out of my way to get exercise in). My route into work has a very fast downhill section followed by lots of long, low gradient uphills - with the reverse being true on the way home.
I like the idea of a fixie for the extra energy it takes to use one hence burning more cals, the low maintenance and easy repair/customisation of the bike.
Can I do better for my money than this bike? I want to put some bullhorns on, poss Cinelli Lolas and some cane creek TT bullhorn brake levers.
Help would be appreciated! Bear in mind, Halfords have to be able to source it, kinda rules out a custom made Iro or anything US domestic market only. Oh, I will want a brake too as the drivers in Birmingham are awful and i will need to stop quickly on occasion.
