o.k. I HAVE A FULL SUSPENSION BIKE AND I CANT GET MY GEARS TO WORK RIGHT I CANT GET GEAR 1 ITS ACTUALLY 2 AND WHEN I GO INTO WHAT SHOULD BE 2 ITS 4, 3 IS 5 AND 4 IS 6 AND THERE IS NO 7. HOW CAN I FIX THIS.

The easiest to follow derailer adjustment instructions are at the Park Tools website which can be accessed via the link already provided. Best avice: start at the beginning and do not skip any steps. Finsih at the end with a well funcitoning derailer. Take your time, be patient and watch closely what happens when you make an adjustment.

After working with electronic equipment all day, I love to come home and work on bicycles. I can see what I'm doing and get the instant gratification of knowing when I've solved a problem. Go for it.

Buy the tools or take it you your local bike shop - they'd be happy to have your business.

If you go the route of investing in tools, you could try Bike Tools Etc. (http://www.biketoolsetc.com), or again, buy them at your LBS.

I am presuming you have not attempted to adjust the derailer. That is the way I read your posts. Get a good small phillips screwdriver at your nerby Walmart or hardware store. This will cost about $3.00. It is the only tool you will need to do derailer adjustments.

Go through the procedure outlined on the Park Tool website for derailer adjustment. I suspect you need to have more cable tension and the limit sotps set. Don't make guesses, though. Start at the beginning and go through the procedures listed step by step. If you cannot improve the situation or correct it, you will be well served to visit your lbs and let them check the derailer alignment and straighten it if they find this is necessary.

Derailers are not rocket science, but they do require orderly methods to solve the problems. Ask yourself if you can work in this manner. If you can, go for it. If you have a short attention span, take the bike to your lbs and save yourelf and them some frustration. As you gain experience, you will learn enough to have pretty good ideas of what the problem is and can take the shortcuts.

I am not trying to be condescending or anything of that sort. I'm trying to help you understand the way one must work to solve mechanical problems.
