Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce myself. I'm in my mid-30s. I started biking in San Diego about 2.5 years ago, but it was purely for exercise and only once a week. I got a Trek 7.3 hybrid and I thought it was perfect for riding around hilly SD.

7 months ago, my wife and I moved to San Francisco and we were amazed how bikes are very popular here. Some bikes are really eye candy and simple yet artistic. It must be a bike subculture. The city is just beautiful to ride around. We started doing Sunday streets (blocks of neighborhoods are shut down for cyclists once a month), joined Critical Mass and Friday Night Skates (ride along rollerbladders/skaters), going to Golden Gate Park, and exploring the entire Bay Area using our bikes and the trains. I got really hooked and one day our hybrids were stolen. :( This was my chance to get into single speed gear and I got another Trek, but this time is Soho S. I started becoming obsessive and doing groceries and running errands with it. But I am not satisfied with the way it looks, although is very comfortable to ride on.

Now I want those beautiful fixed gears bikes I see on the streets. :thumb:

My dream is one day to ride from San Francisco to Portland along the coast during the summer.

Thanks for reading.

Wow. How are you able to do that trip? How many days and miles/day were you riding? How good of a shape for a person to be to doing that!
