Commuting - Rain Gear

What do you wear when you ride in the rain?

A waterproof breathable road side workers safety parka,
neon lime with lots of reflective material.
Mine is La Crosse brand, , there is a vent across the upper back..
helps ventilate excess heat.

I have some cheap Field & Stream rain gear I bought from a sporting goods store both jacket and pants. They don't breathe well but for my short ride it doesn't matter to much.

If its over 60F, I just wear my usual; Hi Viz reflective shirt and bike shorts.
Under 60F, Hi Viz Pearl Izumi jacket and Marmot waterproof pants.

Most times: J & G breathable rain jacket w/ Rainmates. If I feel it is warranted, I also have a generic rain cape and full rain pants, as well as tube (full coverage) style chaps.

Marmot Precip jacket. Waterproof mid-top boots. Rain Pants if it's cold enough. Also thermal gardening gloves if it's cool enough.

For light rain I use a nylon wind jacket and pants; it's water-resistant enough to keep me dry during drizzles. For a real deluge I use a cheap PVC rain suit that I got from an outdoors store. It has some vents but it is not very breathable; therefore I only use it for short commutes. If I had a long commute or I was touring then I would invest in some quality rain gear. Of course, if money weren't an object I would have the best of the best.

I also use nitrile work gloves, and a dollar-store showercap which doubles as both a helmet and a saddle cover. I plan to invest in some shoe covers soon, after recently getting caught in a storm and having to work in squishy socks and shoes all day. :mad:

light warm rain, long sleeve, fleece maybe wind vest. Heavy rain, performance commuter jacket and helmet cover. Heavy cold rain layer under performance commuter jacket and an old set of cabalas dry plus chest waders with the bottoms of the feet cut out so they are like having attached shoe covers. I'm tall so I have a hard time finding rain pants that don't leave my ankles exposed. I have a really nice pair of cabalas guide plus goretex bibs in the tall size that I use for fishing and work but they still pull up past my ankles on the bike.

summer and spring i just get wet fall and winter columbia rain jacket cant remember which model and some motorcycle rain pants they dont breathe but in the winter its not to big a deal.

I almost always carry a Montane Litespeed Windshirt (http://www.outdoormania.co.uk/Item-6-92-cat-0-brand-45-Montane_Litespeed_Windshirt.aspx) with me. It packs down to about the size of an orange, weighs next to nothing and is great for wind, mist and light rain.

If it's warm, nothing more than usual. Warm = > about 65, though the temp where I decide to don rain gear depends on how hard it's raining. A light drizzle, I'll go down to 60, maybe even 55. If it's pouring, I'll probably want rain gear even at 70.

My rain gear is all vented/breathable from J&G cyclewear. Wears like iron. My jacket is pushing 4 years old now and I wear it as a top layer all winter and it still is close to new (the zipper pull took some damage in the clothes washer once, that's the only problem).

warm temps over 70- just enjoy getting wet.

cool temps (50-70)- just picked up a few merrino wool sweaters i plan to use in these conditions.

cold (<50)- '91 honda accord
