Yes, which ever is less windy and less traffic. I usually love that calm, clean, crisp quiet air in the early morning, but I also love the stress relief and anticipation of getting home in the evening.

Distracted drivers on cell phones.

What type of bike do you ride? 2008 Trek 7.7FX (main commuter in good weather), 1999 Cannondale T700 (main rain/snow bike), 2009 Dahon Speed 8 (folding bike for multi-modal commutes), and a 2010 Orbea mountain bike which I haven't ridden to work yet, but may this winter when the roads are too sloppy for the Marathon Winters. Also, I just purchased a Cross Check frameset and am in the process of building it up. Not sure yet if I'll commute on it or just ride it on the weekends.
9. Do enjoy the ride in or ride home more? I like them both. Mornings are nice because it's peaceful and I enjoy the solitary ride in the dark with my bright lights. Sunny afternoons are great too, though, as fun as recreational rides.

How far is your commute to work? 4½ miles by the most direct and safe route. My favorite route is 9¾ miles, and the long loop is 14½ to 16½ miles.

What type of bike do you ride? Primary commuter: 2006 Trek Portland, heavily modified, and with studded snow tires for the winter. Backup Commuter: 2000 Trek 1000. Both those bikes are racked and fendered, and have some sort of permanently-attached lighting. On Mondays I haul in all my clothes and food for the week, and haul home all the laundry at the end of the week. In between, I can ride any bike I want, like my 1996 Litespeed Classic, or my 1999 Schwinn Peloton.
Do enjoy the ride in or ride home more? Generally the ride in, since it can be anything I want it to be.

11. Whats your commuting pet peeve? Joggers coming toward me in my bike lane that refuse to move. The horrendous state of the roads. I've had pretty good luck with motor vehicles so far. I know it's only a matter of time before they float to the top of my list.

2. How far is your commute to work? Depends on the weather, much too far in the winter.
3. How many days a week do you commute? As many as my employer wants me to work, or if the cupboards start looking bare.
4. Do you commute year around? Definitely not on my days off.
5. What do you do for work? What my employer hired me to do.
6. How many years have you been commuting? I cannot count that high, I don't have enough fingers and toes.

11. Whats your commuting pet peeve? Nothing really, though some drivers are far too courteous. It's irritating when they won't pass me on a 50 MPH road in a 16 foot wide lane, stopping dozens of cars behind them for no reason.
12. How many of your co-workers think you're nuts? How should I know? Nobody says anything and I don't really give a damn what anyone thinks anyway. There are only about 3 of us that ever ride at all, and the other two only ride a few times a month in nice weather as far as I can tell. Some people think it's not safe, but mostly people think it's impractical. They don't want to ever be inconvenienced in any way or have to actually do any work, as far as I can tell.
I like reading those, the diversity is amazing, it's cool to know what/how others are riding and you get to know forum members a little closer.

Mornings are a little tougher if the weather is unpleasant, on a nice morning it's a blast. Getting out of work definitely is a pleasant moment that makes the ride home all that more enjoyable :D I don't mean to say that I dislike my job, but it is a job after all. As mentioned above I extend my ride home if the weather is nice. Overall, it depends of the circumstances.

Built my own: Nashbar frame, misc parts from different vendors.
11. Whats your commuting pet peeve?
Salmons, fixters, ninjas (in particular a combination of those), zombies, lack of enforcement from NYPD (cop cars blocking bike lanes!!!), new NYC bike lanes.
12. How many of your co-workers think you're nuts?
Not aware of any, most are cool with this, I'd say 1/10 of people here bike to work (students, postodcs, lots of foreign students and scientists), a lot of them come from countries with cycling culture developed much higher than even in NYC.

6. How many years have you been commuting? One. Started last Fall by cycling to the train station in my town and riding the train (or bus) the rest of the way to work. Now I just cycle the whole way.

9. Do enjoy the ride in or ride home more? The morning ride is the best. I leave early, 6 a.m., and lots of wildlife to see along the bike route at that hour.

11. Whats your commuting pet peeve? Have a couple. First there are the stealth walkers/joggers in the early morning hours who wear no reflective clothing or lights. Very difficult to see them in the early morning on the path. Then we have the packs of runners who take up the entire path. Come on. Move over and let me through.
12. How many of your co-workers think you're nuts? Quite a few. I've lost 60 lbs in the last year and get asked all the time how I did that. When I say I did it by riding 40 to 50 miles a day I get the "you're nuts" look.

2. How far is your commute to work? Summer: 6 miles round trip to work. Fall-Spring: 15 miles round trip to school.

4. Do you commute year around? Yup.
5. What do you do for work? Restaurant work (Sometimes I wait tables, sometimes I cook, every once in a while I barista, mostly I expedite).
6. How many years have you been commuting? 10 years.
7. What shift do you work? Summer: 7am - 3pm (unless we're short, and I can score some overtime). Winter: depends on my class schedule, but I try to be on campus by 10am and to leave after rush hour.
8. What type of bike do you ride? 2005 Kona Fire Mountain, with a Surly rigid fork and Nitto Albatross bars. I just picked up a Nashbar Cyclocross frame with the intent of building it up to be the new commuter, so that I can retrofit the Kona as a trail bike again.
9. Do enjoy the ride in or ride home more? The ride home, because there's no time pressure. Sometimes, in the summer, it'll take me 20 miles of cycling to cover the 3 miles home.
10. Where did you purchase your primary commuter bike? LBS. New frame was purchased on Ebay.
11. Whats your commuting pet peeve? Deep, fresh snow. Anything deeper than ~6 inches (~10 inches if it's really fluffy) and I'll ride the bus until the roads are cleared.
12. How many of your co-workers think you're nuts? Just because of the bike? A few, mainly because of the winter riding and the summer utility riding ("you go to Costco on your bike?!").

On and off for about 30 years. Many of my jobs have required taking a car, because distances were quite large.

Day, mostly. Sometimes a client wants me to come early in the morning or in the evening.

I'm a bike collector, so I'm always switching bikes. But my favorite commuter bike is a rebuilt 1971 Raleigh Super Course. The frame is a wonderful platform, and I've replaced everything on it. It has weird Delta Ergo handlebars, SPD commuting pedals, fenders, and a rack.

I don't have cow-orkers, but I might expect my clients to think I'm weird to commute by bike. Or I might expect them to be turned off by my attire. But neither has proven true. More often, they don't even give it a thought, which strikes me as strange. Not many people get around by bike around here. What's really weird is that some of my clients are on the top of a steep hill, and it's hard to get there, but it doesn't occur to them, because they drive up the hill all the time.

2. How far is your commute to work? 53Km (about 33mi) round trip. I ride to the train station in town, catch the train across town, then ride to work. Reverse it for my trip home. If I were to ride the whole way it'd be a 93Km round trip.

If I ride all the way, it is about 20 miles each way. my shortest ride option is 1.3 miles to the Metro (subway). Usually I drive my daughter to school (10 miles), then ride to metro (6.2 miles) then metro the remaining distance.
