The folks in Sandersville, GA did a great job with their first Kaolin Festival Century bike ride. Good routes, good road support, well run rest stops and perfect weather greeted the 101 riders. Many riders from my town made the 25 mile drive to participate. It was an ideal setting for my first metric century since my accident in August. It was cool enough (55F) at the start to bring out the arm and knee warmers for the first time since winter. It warmed to a comfortable 75F.

I started out easy, riding alone much of the first 36 miles. I made a quick water refill at the second rest stop and left with four friends who I ride with often. We formed a good paceline and rode the rest of the way in together, skipping the third and final rest stop. I felt good the whole ride and afterward. My leg gave me no problems at all. The Salsa Casseroll was a smooth and comfortable ride all day as always.

Here is the data from my Garmin. http://ridewithgps.com/trips/114308

Looks like fun. There was a 16.4% grade somewhere?

I don't think so. Probably just an anomaly in the data. There were a few notable hills, but nothing serious. The only time I dropped into my granny ring was on the mile long climb at 33 miles. My 36/25 combo was just a little too high for that one so I used the 26/21 briefly. I doubt any of the climbs were worse than 10%. Most were much less.
