Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Deal Extreme flash/front light combo?

My schedule has changed and I find my knog skink to fail to fill my current needs. I remember awhile back there was a thread about flash lights and many of you guys said you sported flash lights as front lights from deal extreme because of the price although shipping takes awhile. I remember you guys recommended to get the flashlights with a specific LED; which I have since forgotten and can't find via the search function....

otherwise, look for a flashlight with a q5 or r4 emitter (just pay attention to what batteries it takes), and get a universal bike mount.

Get a P7 emitter if you want maximum brightness.

or a fenix light. 180 lumens of goodness.

No overkill is exactly what I'm looking for; I just want to keep the price range within around $50. I want to see in addition to being seen! :lol:

And by the way; would I be correct to assume more lumens = brighter?

Yea, more lumens, more bright it is. In the city I put it on 9 lumens. Then only time i had it over 100lumens was when we did a night ride (12am-6am) outside the city where there are roads with absolutely no lights. Visibility is great. Just make sure u angle it a bit lower so u don't blind people :D

I believe adriano had a front light that was like 600 lumens. He got it from deal extreme for around $30-40 I think.

I doubt it's 700 lumens, do you even realize how bright that is? My 80 lumen flashlight is almost temporarily blinding..

in the city, that $8 4xaaa bike light was enough. in the mountains (or even in some suburbs), i've found the magicshine 900 lumen bike light useful. one thing to look out for when buying these lights is to note the runtime. those 1xaa or 1x18650 lights may have a bright emitter, but will only give you about an hour or so of runtime before you need to replace/recharge the batteries. the 3xaaa lights are typically less bright emitters, but you'll get upwards of 3 hours of usable light on a fresh set of batteries.

Yeah, I know what 700 lumens is, and no its not 700 lumens (would be nice it it was!)

Who cares though? It is a good light to bike with - to see by when biking. Simply it works when you want to see in the dark at 15-20 mph. It has a wide flood combined with a good long range center spot. People think that I am riding a motorcycle or moped when I am using it.

I don't know the exact burn time, but is over 30 minutes. I carry two batteries. If you need more, you can buy the 900 watt version with 4 18650 batteries listed above.

The 100 watt version probably gives acceptable lighting for 15 feet in front of the bike. Yes, the 700 lumin version will hurt my eyes if I shine it at anything within 5 feet of the light - its way, way to bright to be using at less than a 5 ft range.

This is the bright one that I have. 900 lumens or whatever. It works for biking and is plenty bright if you want to see - mountain biking, or road biking at 15-20mph.

Two mode is plenty - high and low. Don't use high mode as a hand held light at distances less than 5 feet though.
