Cyclocross - koolstop replacement for my tektro cr720

Thats crazy you posted this because i just got my CR720s and koolstops in and installed them today. I got the V-type salmon koolstops exactly as pictured above. However my Tektro cartridges (which are the same size as my old Avid Shortys) are shorter than these pad inserts... They also use a set screw instead of pins.. I searched all over to confirm i was ordering the right koolstop inserts and everyone confirmed its the v-type. Are my Tektro cartridges abnormal?

Funny thing, I have two sets of tektro cr720s. My black set has the longer pads. My shiny silver (not the satin silver ones) have shorter pads as well. Which ones do you have? It looks like the longer cartridges use v-pad replacements above. The shorter ones almost look like a hybrid road pad with canti/vbrake studs???

I have two sets of black CR720s, both with the shorter type. They have a gold sticker on the bottom that says something about "cyclocross" and has a few notes about flipping the pads for the front brake, etc. strange

ONly thing I can think of is my black set is the older version with longer length inline pads/cartridge. Maybe since my silver pair is newer (and it sounds like your black ones are pretty new) they are now shipping the CR720s with these shorter pads/cartridge??

Did you manage to get those inline pads in your shorter cartridge?

I also just picked up a CR720 (black) in the past week and it too had the new, shorter pads. If I'm not mistaken, it looks like it would take the Koolstop dura-type pad, although I haven't replaced them myself (I liked them, out of the box, better than my shimano v-brake pads, so I'll wear through these first--I'm guessing they switched to a different style & possibly better pad due to complaints about the old ones being junk?).

Just get the Dual-Compound Koolstop MTB pads. Best things made, have them on two of my three bikes (and the third is getting them soon)

On my front brakes, I swapped the (older...last years...?) pad holder for the shorter one that takes road pads to get rid of fork shudder. THey work great. It may be that tektro switched them all to a road sized pad.

I think the road pads would be easier to adjust as they are not as long.

It would be nice to only buy one type of brake pad.

^right on and i actually got mine at Tree Fort so the pic is true.

So i tried these out at a mudfest race this past Wednesday. It was at night under lights, in the rain, and the most fun i've had yet on a cross bike. But anyway, the brakes stayed clear fine and the pads seemed to work great. I have no complaints about them. This weekend is a 2-day event in Providence so i'll test them out then in the dry.
