Southern California - I'm Car Free and It's Raining

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Figures. I sold my car yesterday and it rains today.
My sister in law moved here a few months ago has been using my car. She bought a place and got a job so all she needed was a car. So I sold her mine. The day before it started raining.

I learned long ago, always check the weather the day before selling or making a purchase of items valued at $200 or more!:D

So did you give her a good deal or make enough to buy a REALLY expensive bike?...or maybe one of these:

We can always hope not. Call is for snow in the local mountains for Tuesday and Wednesday. Granted, not much, but SNOW. Getting closer to "break out the skis" time. Can't wait.:50:

you can blame me for the weather. i just moved here from ohio and brought by "bad" weather with me.
i left my car in ohio since i only have 7 miles to work and have been cycling everyday (except one day, i jogged). i commuted in ohio while in school in weather a lot worse. you will get use to it - trust me. in fact, i kinda enjoyed riding today. i'm not looking forward to the forecasted lightning tomorrow, though.

I thought rain was a valid excuse to stay home and call in sick in California.

Rain, rain go away.....I thought it would only be a few days but it's dragging on. I don't ride in the rain, it's hard enough staying upright when it is dry. Nice time to sell your car, hope you get a better replacement. Stay safe and dry.

Here you g (http://www.active.com/cycling/Articles/10_Tips_for_Riding_in_the_Rain.htm)o...the writer even mentions San Diego...:D
Bike touring in Europe desensitized me to precipitation, and what we've been getting here in San Diego since Monday doesn't begin to resemble "la pluie." I love riding in this weather. The temperature is welcome change from the 100+ degrees of a couple of weeks ago. I have a choice of two rain bikes, a 700c for commuting and a 26" MTB for Noah's flood, both with fenders and mudflaps.
You now have permission to buy a new rain bike. Immediately.
Or to buy a new road bike to replace the old one that has now become your new rain bike.
win-win.

Did you buy a new car just now? Reason I ask is because now the sun's coming out here.
+1 on HTFU. I love riding in the rain luckily it always rains here :)

Yes. Someone tried to explain how it works when you retire... something like you can't use the credit to retire early, but you can use it to advance to the next pay scale when you are up for retirement. I didn't quite understand it, but I have about 30 more years before it's a concern of mine.
I do have about a month of sick time saved up, and I'm a fairly new teacher. The funny thing is, the teachers I know who use even half of their sick pay every year end up in meetings with their AP regarding attendance problems. lol

The way I understand it is if your district offers, for example, 2.7 @ 55, and you have 30 @ 55, you'll get 81% of your highest 12 months. If you're allowed to use unused sick for service credit and you have 1500 sick hours, you'll end up with 83.7%. I don't know why but you don't need a full 2080 for a year credit.

Wait. You sold your car to be car-free and then you bought another one?
Or was the sale to the SIL just a ruse to get a new car?

My money is on both.
Wait. You sold your car to be car-free and then you bought another one?
Or was the sale to the SIL just a ruse to get a new car?I wasn't trying to be car free, it just happened for a week. It's hard for me to be car free. Especially towing my Mom and her wheelchair up that 1/4 mile 10% grade after I take her to dinner.
I replace our cars every ten years so when my sister in law asked to buy my truck, it was close enough to the scheduled date that I said sure and let her take it. But I've had to work late all week so I didn't have time to pick up the new one. I only drive it on Wednesdays and Saturdays so it wasn't much of an inconvenience.

So basically, you posted on the guise that you were going green when in fact you were just trying to dump your piece of ***** truck on your poor sister in law so that you can finance a better pickup truck for yourself. Am I missing anything else here?
