Mountain Biking - Which bike to puchase?? (Beginner)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

name brands that I hear all tell me are specialized, gary fisher, trek and cannondale bikes.. i know this is based mostly of preference but most of these local shops sell one name brand or another would love to hear which name brand to go browse before hittin the shops.

you should probably tell people the amount you want to spend and what you want to use it for. I don't have any advice on what to buy, just on how to get more use out of the threads.

Check out the FAQ at the top of this forum. You'll get tons of info on there. As for the bike, pretty much any bike around $500 from those brands is going to be similar to the others. To be honest, I know you've probably read this on the forums before, but go out and test them out. Afterwards, some bike shops let you take it back and exchange a bike after a few days so why not pick up the one you like the most, then take it to the trail and test it out.

Go to the closest REI and buy the best HT Scott they have on the floor. Probably and Aspect, it will work fine.
