Mountain Biking - Iron Horse Hollowpoint Series

i know i posted a thread about my big switch, but this thread is just to talk about the Iron Horse Hollowpoint series, not about me.

I don't think so. Some of us were discussing ironhorse bikes, and were talking about the sunday cups and the hollowpoints. Search it up, there was a discussion somewhere about it in the mtbing forum.

Im selling my Bullit frame, and hopefully getting one of the Sunday's....any idea how much theyre gunna run? I remember seeing the IH Worldcup DH frame for like $999....this should run more though, hopefully no more than $1600 :D

$2k for an IH frame, forget it. Id rather have a user Turner, Intense, or a new MountainCycle 9.5....I still might get a used Turner or Intense since ive seen them from like $1400-$1800.

Frame is going to be expensive. Ironhorse has lost a potential customer. (I think higher than 2000$ actually, closer to demo 9 pricing)...big companies with boutique prices. V10 or vpfree here I come.

Exactly. IH isnt a boutique bike, its a cheap bike....and in no way should be compared to MC, SC, Ventana, Yeti, and so on. You cant make cheap bikes, the just pull out this new one, and charge boutique prices. Hell....5k could get me a Foes!

Oh and the sgs series is gone and replaced by a bunch of single pivots with dumb names. Not happy with the direction ironhorse and specialized have gone thats for sure

Getting into more DH than FR stuff right now......alot of racing. I had a friend that said he had wanted to buy a Bullit who had broke the other bike I sold him, so he needs something a bit beefier. I talked to him about it, and he said he was gunna buy. If he didnt, I probably wouldnt sell it....at least not right away. Good bike, but id rather get something set on what I wanna do more, which is race at this point. Especially now that I joined a team, and gunna check around for sponsorship with this shop that I was talking to earlier....whooo cheap **** :D

i wouldn't exactly call IH's bikes cheap. they were making quality bikes with good specs and selling them for cheap.

some of comments regarding what's been mentioned of the high price for the sunday world cup, as well as some of the other comments posted:

- the price i mentioned is for their "world cup" bike, the top model available for the sunday. the sunday team should be relatively cheaper.

- the new 2005 line up, particularly the bikes they've shown to the public (see the thread on the 2005 ironhorses) are sporting their own new linkage system and no longer licensing the horst link from specialized, which raises their cost of production.

- the budget line up's got some single pivots... ok. they might not be the best linage designs, but personally, i think the bikes look pretty good and are spec'd pretty well too. and according to what skatodd said on rm, the yakuza kumicho's gonna retail for approximately $2000. sounds pretty good to me. if i ever decide to get into dh, and can afford another bike and still be able to keep my current ride (the fluid), i'd consider the kumicho for sure... then just upgrade parts as i get the money.

cheap = affordable. Take the term for what it is worth. I know it could mean value and quality but I think in this case he did not mean it was a CHEAP bike but value oriented.

My arguments are on ridemonkey as well and I stand by them. There quality bikes of the equivelent to the 4bar sgs is ridiculous high. They should have offered a mid range bike instead of single pivot. I still stand by that statement I make to ska todd. I agree...the world dh is going to be a world class dh bike. BUT the stuff they offer to affordable riders is not acceptable to me as a consumer. The ironhorse SGS pro was an awesome trail bike/ fr/ dh...now you are stuck with a single pivot. Very disapointing.

This is just another example of how the industry itself (xc and dh) are moving away from every day people being able to ride a competitive bike to being pushed towards a more corporate level sponsorship system. The only people riding that ironhorse will be sponsored, semi sponsored or the guy who need the newest and best. Its unfortunate specialized and ironhorse are going in that direction.

Sunday team is still likely to be in the 4000american range considering the frame cost.

Sorry yes...the yakitup is gonna be in a great price range...but I have the choice to drop tonnes of coin on a decent linkage system or pay very little to get what I do consider a sub par system for overall usage. (single pivots are fine for dh)

If specialized ever gets rid of the bighit entirely...I am not entirely sure which bike I will get. FSR was a beautiful balance between pedalling, affordability, weight and active suspension while breaking.

O yeah, Mael you're right, i was talking about value.....not actual price. If theyre IH WorldCup frame is world cup material, and only 3k......whys this Sunday 5k+.....

Theres nothing spectactular about IH anyway, its turning into Specialized....

Back to the hollowpoint bikes the new hollowpoint MKIII looks really nice. I'm going to try and save for one of those next year. I like the way the chainstay on the right side is lifted up above the chain. Hopefully it will reduce chain slap. The xc dwlink bike azure or something like that looks nice too. Just need to figure out if i need a trial bike or xc bike.
