Not sure about this, but I thought about just finishing out the year (or till December) riding how I have been.

Once December rolls around I was going to try starting some winter plan for myself. The book I am reading believes in the 3 weeks on one week off, but I have also heard of 4 weeks on and one off.

I was going to try for 10 hours a week... (I'm really just picking a number)

Monday off
Tuesdays 2x20s ~1.5
Wednesday endurance or SP ~1hr
Thursday 3x5 ~1.5
Friday 1hr zone one
Saturday 2-3hrs 70-90%
Sunday 4x10 + 20min of SP ~2.5 hrs

I was planning to doing this 3-4 times in a row, then taking a rest week of soft pedaling.

I'm going to take it easy for a couple months and cross train more.
Anyhow, do you have items you are trying to improve?

I thought the winter would be the best time to work on FTP. Then VO2 would be a spring thing....

get a copy of friel's book and read the sections on planning your season, and on determining your limiters (so you can improve them).

Friel's book is great I've just finished Base building for cyclists

I've only read it once but in an ideal world you will have at least 30 weeks till your first A priority event 6 weeks pre-base 12 weeks of base and 12 weeks of build tthne a peak week or 2

not always possible

I have one race left this year and Im' feeling a bit burnt out.... haven' really ridden much in 2-3 weeks and been using the weather as an excuse. I've decided after the race next weekend I'll just ride how I feel till mid November and then peak for July and Aug... hoping I can hold my peak for 6 weeks

in short both books are great but base building for cyclist go more indepth on building a solid base
