Thinking about almost all car manufacturers have at least one "racing" model, like Hyundai's Tiburon, Mazda's MX-3 (Now RIP), etc... it always calls my attention how many racing cars did Toyota put on the market... let see if I remember them all:

Did I miss anyone?

I wonder how many Foosters have pics of themselves driving a 2000GT... I'm sure there's a Pcad one somewhere.

EDIT: I did miss one... as Siu pointed out, behold the Toyota 800:

Not to mention there was multiple versions of each of those. For example, the Supra went through 4 generations with the pictured one being the fourth. Basically like 4 different models tbh, they were all completely different.

Datsun/Nissan has a few. From the Toyota ones mentioned, I guess we're talking street legal only?

1000/1200/1500/1600/2000
240/260/280/300/350/370
Silvia
Skyline/GT-R

I dunno all that much about Nissan stuff, but I'd imagine they come close to the 'yotas.

for the current line up, you can add the lexus IS series, which is a pretty decent RWD car, very similar to BMW 3 series.
But there is one key thing that wouldn't qualify many of those cars as a race car and that is they weren't made purely for homologation.

you also left out the toyota 800, which was a proper sports car used in races.

For most Homologation specials, proper race cars in street legal trim and produced in minimum quantities, it would have to be ford.
Ford: Escort RS1600, Sierra RS500, RS200, Sierra RS Cosworth, Escort RS Cosworth, Sierra Sapphire Cosworth... etc.

For nissan, I think the only ones that really fit into 'pure bred race car' is R390.

the skyline, SX and Z are sports cars, really good sports cars, but they're not purely designed for racing.

As per myself, I'll never forget the Mazda MX-3. I fell in love with it when it came out and got myself one in 1994. It was my main car for over a decade... Even tho it was the 4cyl one, the thing smoked everyone.

The Tiburon is RIP as well. Hyundai replaced the econo-coupe with the Genesis Coupe, a rear-wheel-drive pony car with 210 or 306 hp, depending on engine. Just sayin'.

Mitsubishi only made one real race car, the Lancer Evo.

Thread kind of needs race cars to work. Preferably ones that actually ran in real sanctioned races. Winning is optional.

Don't know why that MR-2 Spyder is up there. It only ever "raced" to Starbucks, or maybe the nail salon.

haha most of those toyotas are not even "sporty" and very few are race cars.

porsche race cars:
64
360
550
718
787
804
904
906
907
908
909
910
914-6 GT
917
934
935
936
953
956
961
962
GT1
GT2
GT3
WSC-95
RS Spyder

porsche road going models that the factory sanctioned for racing:
356
911
924
930
944
964
968
993
996
997

hell, porsche even had a factory team that raced the cayenne

i admit, some of the above porsche models may be prototypes. i cleaned several out, but didnt have time to go through them all. the road going list could be longer too. there were 3 or 4 different factory sanctioned 924 models alone....

my ferrari knowledge is weak (i am a porsche owner...) my guess is that porsche may give them a run for their money however. ferrari seemed to really draw out models where as porsche always stays on the cutting edge (at least in racing)

edit:
if you count every model that has been or is raced regardless of factory support. i would guess that every porsche model has been raced in some capacity even the panamera (970)

haha, i didnt say ferrari was not an innovator, they just seem to stick with a platform longer than porsche. i have much respect for their cars and f1 effort.

interesting tidbit: the use of the prancing horse on a yellow background in the stuttgart crest (center of porsche emblem) predated ferrari's prancing horse. the germans are not too fond of "their" crest being stolen by the italians.

no. toyota did not design or build the exige. lotus did all the work, and then used a toyota mill. lotus could have built the car without toyota (gm ecotec)

without yamaha, the 2000gt would have never existed.

calling a lotus a toyota would be like calling this a chevy:

I see what you did there. Good stuff. A real car enthusiast, not just a fanboy cafe racer.

I used to be that way. But my hobby became too expensive in upgrade parts and speeding tickets. My brother used to own a luxury car dealership chain, so we would play with fancy really fast cars all the time. He was also a manager for Braman Porsche/Lamborghini in Palm Beach, so I got their team Porsche bike Jersey as a gift.

I love the newer 911s. They are like flying tiny airplanes on the highway. :D

Now all Toyota has to do is actually let people buy it (it's lease only, and Lexus picks who they will let "borrow" it) and make a GT version for the LeMans circuit.

The japanese are good at doing copies and integrating technology into everything, but I bet there will be that extra 'something' that will be missing from the LFA, just like the NSX, R35, Z350 and supra.

I can't wait to hear what Top Gear will have to say about it.

I want a Prius race car with:

1. Celica All-Trac 4WD drivetrain (like Rod Millen used for his Pikes Peak car)
2. mid-mounted Supra 2JZ-GTE in the 1000bhp+ range

That would make for a fun sleepr.

Beats me where the stupid stereotype comes from. From what I've seen, maybe one to three in ten Miatas are piloted by women, and they're never the stereotypical overweight secretary type.

Also mysterious is why anyone cares. Even if 99% of owners were women, it's still one of the best cars on the road.

Doesn't matter. It's still a chick car.
