Hello,

I'm considering offering courier services around my town (~40k population, but there is a demand).

My first question: Is a fixie good for bicycle couriers? There aren't a lot of hills, but the few that there are are 6%+ grade. Besides, most of my jobs would be downtown which is flat for the most part.

Second question: Are there any good carbon fiber/bamboo fixies out there that would fit my purpose? That accept rear rack and fenders?

Third question: If fixie isn't the way to go, are there any carbon fiber or bamboo bikes on the market that accept rear racks and fenders?

Thanks in advance!

PS, I'd trade my 2010 Trek Madone 6.9 for a Trek Carbon District in a heartbeat!

How much do u plan on investing in a bike that will take a beating as a workhorse? Not to mention locking it up outside... Dents, dings, weather, other people, etc...

What would you all recommend? I'm trying to learn here and I would just like to hear what more experienced folks have to say. Sorry for coming off as a newb, but I am a newb.

What companies make good fixies? Is there any specific reason couriers choose fixies over geared bikes?

Thanks guys.

To start out, I'd probably use a BikesDirect or less for brand new. See how profitable it really is for you ? A good used deal on a bike even better.

SS and fixies are good work bikes for the pure fact that there isnt much to go wrong, compared to geared bikes.
Theres too many companies to list if youre looking for an answer like that. Just check out numerous manufacturers web sites, then if u have more specific questions, ask away.
