Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - where to find used track bikes?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, so to preface this, I am a road racer and primarily TTist. I am looking to find a 54cm P3 track (T3?) and was hoping to be able to find the frame used. I know that slowtwitch and duathlon classifieds will often have TT bikes, but where does one find track bikes? Or am I just out of luck and I will have to go new because there is no great online Track classified area?
Thanks for any help.

Good friggin question.
Ask around at your local velodrome may be your best bet. There is always craigs list and ebay (try searching on track, fixed, velodrome), but they seem to be full of a lot of hipster fixed gear stuff (bling wheels, straight handlebars) and would take some work to get ready for track.
Having an exact frame in mind makes shopping used much harder. If you have a few or a style in mind you can come up on something quicker, but if there is exactly one thing you want(and its the top of the line, most expensive thing out there) it becomes much much harder. There arent too many P3s out there to begin with, due to the price and niche market, and any one getting one would be taking it into great consideration before jumping over the edge on the purchase. So I cannot see more than one or two in the entire country going on the used market every year.

The Fixed Gear Fever classifieds are a great place to start. Otherwise, your local cycling messageboard. Finally, eBay. Come winter, it's very easy to pick up top-shelf track components for cheap.

Thanks guys. FGF will probably be the route. I will keep searching, and if it is legal, I may just end up pulling everything off of my P3 and setting it up as a fixed gear (assuming I can actually do that). I appreciate the help.

I pity the local pursuiters once you get set up DrWJODonnell. :thumb:

You can do that, but be forewarned: The rear dropouts (track ends) are short. This will limit what gear combination you can run. Remember, you don't have a derailleur hanger to take up slack. Chain slack is given or taken by sliding the wheel in and out of the track ends.
