Remember? Pocket full of quarters. Blisters. Moldy carpet smell. That one cute girl hogging Ms. Pac-Man you had a crush on. Parent drop off or bike ride then...blissful afternoon.
Here is my favourite game of all time. Post your beloved console.

If only I had bought a few shares of Home Depot with those quarters. But I usually did set the high score.

Oh man Allen, that took me back...Defender was sooo hard past 5th level. My cousin could play a perfect set. We could hardly tell what was going on on his screen, he was so fast.
And Joust? Hours and hours...it was so easy to play, it encouraged leveling up.

When you had friends with money. You needed four people, it was so hard. I think the buy in was $1. That was more than a gallon of gas then. Expensive, fun game this.

Thanks, but I'm looking for console pics, court. Not screenshots. The artwork on the sides, the joysticks...that's where the memories lie. The actual games you can still get (some free online).
Trying to remember some stuff that made me happy.

My uncle owned a couple arcades when I was a kid. My cousins had a somewhat abused asteriods game in their basement. We would play it for days.

6th grader growing up in Pasadena - would hop on my BMX after school and head down to Old Town Pasadena with a pocketful of quarters . . . would not rest until I beat the game using each character.

I see you liked to dabble in the dark arts...this game was scary. My cousins would play Iron Maiden on the boombox and play this. I thought we were going to summon something terrible with that evil combo.

So much win with this post...see the bootleg Donkey Kong rip off graphics on the side? Yeah...bootleg copy games. Those were interesting, but never as good as the original. Also, look at the magic bear pac-man bootleg. What was that? Crystal Castles? Man, that game sucked. I love how they would put new games in old consoles. You would run to a console to be first (putting quarters on the screen to form the que....only to find out it was a new game in an old console. Bummer. Good times.

I have blocked/lost so many 80's memories that I need to actually walk down memory lane, not just talk about it.
Pound down a six pack of Mt Dew and a King size Snickers, then play this and tell me you aren't twitching when you done :D

Is it old school with select machines or a dump?
All we have now is Dave & Buster's....and the game selection is horrible there. Mostly sports/racing stuff.
Remember the first one to have real graphics?

Great memories. The creator of Dragon's Lair is one of America's greatest animators next to Disney, he is just unsung and none of his projects got the attention they deserved. The game itself was had clumsy transitions and was too expensive to make profit for the arcades, so it was unfortunately a failure. I really wanted it to succeed well enough to make it to cinema. I loved drawing Dirk's further adventures back when I was a comic/graphic novel writer/artist.
Frogger with the wood grain. Also a very good selection. '81 vintage I believe?
Dragon's Lair has been ported to the iPhone/iPad.
Exact same graphics, and they don't look dated one bit.

If the iPad came in a maple wood frame, I would buy it. I hate the tactile sensation of the sharp metal edges on that thing. It's not as cuddly as it should be.
Oh well. Now it's time for some Dig-Dug and Q-bert.
http://www.joystixgames.com/photos/qbert1820.JPG
This game (Dig Dug, not pictured) had one of the most responsive joysticks, ever. It read minds.

When I was growing up one of my close friend's father owned a pizza joint with a small arcade in the back room.
The one rare(ish) game he had was, Rampage.
It was a full size take off on the Atari game, Crush Crumble and Stomp.

It kinda marked the end of the Golden Age of console games to me.

old school cabinets theyre limited on new releases as the owners wanted something more traditional
Thanks Dipper.
I had forgotten how much I like the smell of ozone, particle board soaked in Red big gulp, and that tangy odor a pocket full of change leaves on your hands.

I couldn't find a picture of the blue pair of waffle trainers with the yellow swoop.
That and a pair of tube socks complete my 1981 nostalgia tour.
Oh and some Yes on the Radio Shack sound system.

Speaking of Samurai Showdown and Metal Slug, (both of which I downloaded off the Virtual Console for Wii,) and the old Neo Geo arcade machine:

I don't think I've even seen the princess level, or the final boss. Stupid hard game, I would get killed by a freakin' kobold too easy. A fighter should always pwn a kobold, they are dungeon fodder.
Same as before, you had better know the correct pattern beforehand.

First game I ever won with one quarter. I was sad that the game ended and I had to walk away from it. Played it a few more times after that, but it was no longer a challenge, so I moved on. Great space flight simulator though, I wish it was longer.

I could glue a steering wheel to a glacier and it would be less frustrating than trying to steer that character through that game.

Kobolds have like 2 hit points. Dude has chain mail armor. Somebody in the design department hates nerds.
My memories of an arcade are the flashing lights, buzzers, and ringing bells that tallied your score. The best sound was that extra game popper. While in high school I worked at an amusement park over the summers. Of course there was an arcade. Not the fancy video game type, but the old electromechanical pin ball machines. The ones where the digits were on wheels and not electronic displays.
Back then one could play the best part of an afternoon and not spend more than $2.00. The machines were a nickel a game. Plus, you weren't even acknowledged as a player if you couldn't keep that machine shaking just to the point of TILT.
It was a right of passage to beat all the machines in that arcade. What memories...
Best regards,
Mike

I also started on Pinball, in the 70's.
Then it was all about comic books, boardgames, trading cards, model cars, electric trains, and pinball. Star Wars had it's own hobby category.
I couldn't wait for Saturday. Ultraman in the morning, then an afternoon with my Dad and brother racing model cars, building trains, reading comics, and the arcade. Good times.
One I was genuinely good at...

I was a big fan of the driving games. Pole Position, Pole Position II, the Cruisin' games, a bunch of others, and after I could really drive, Sega GT.
I could never really get into video games. My attention span was
