Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Footprint

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

How are they trying to market this? As a track bike or just a carbon SS. Because a Carbon SS that won't be raced seems very pointless.

its heavier than the tk3, carbon, and the price of a tk2

Belt drive compatible too. Should be lighter however.

...rather have an older tk2.
Still, I'd ride it.

Regarding the weight difference between the Footprint and TK3: Don't forget that the Footprint has some budget (read: not light) brakes, brake levers, and brake cables.
UHC carbon is pretty dense stuff. That's probably where the weight comes in.
I say don't dis it till you test ride it. This bike could be the first of a trend. Also, it's one of 10 (TEN) single speed / fixed / track bikes that Felt is offering us. That's way more than any company I can think of.
Be happy!

Also, props to Soil_Sampler for sharing various SSFG related bikes/parts with us. :D

It's a singlespeed road bike, which shouldn't be foreign - companies are selling things not just to the fixster crowd. Now, I can't think of anyone I know who would want one, but it's not out of the question.
Interesting that they seem very willing to do the spaghetti method of product development - throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks - vis a vis their ss/fg offerings.
Looks fine to me, wonder how it rides, probably a lot like my Vilano, only with a little more quality and workmanship in smoothing out the rough edges ?
Ouch, then I saw the MSRP $ 1,599, can I get some pedals with that ?

That's the thing that gets me about these types of bikes, I think Trek makes a SS Madone similar to this. Why would anyone want to cop out that much money for a bike that they won't be racing or has no ability at all to be raced? I know it's not all about racing but here's the thing; they can A)get a track bike better suited for their needs for less money B) they can buy a geared bike better suited to their needs for less money or C) if they aren't interested in racing or anything they can just get a nice steel SS that will better suit their needs and cost less money.

Agreed, if they're going to go for the retro homage, the least they can do is an authentic threaded and quill stem.

compared to a vilano.
ouch.

With the extra $ 1,300-1,400, I figure I can get the best components eventually and still have a cheap frame. After riding it thru saltwater flooding though a couple days back, not sure I want a higher end bike. I would've been angry at myself for not picking up a higher end bike and wading thru on foot instead of giving the components a salt water bath and ruining it. The Vilano is a reliable and inexpensive beater with low theft appeal. It's actually the perfect bike in that regard, transportation and exercise. I think Scrod will agree with me or at least one of his customers will, it's not a crappy Schwinn Madison ? (j/k) ;)

I like the footprint. I wish it had the tk2 fork though.
the steel bike is a bit off but I like that they care enough to try.

I think we can all agree that anything is better than Rock Racing's 4815.

maybe SS crit racing will take off the way SS cyclocross has. That would be cool and be a great place to use this and Trek's CF SS offering. Yess...SS/FG only crit racing would be awesome me thinks. Less of a barrier to entrance for those who can't afford SRAM red, etc.
RR 4815 looks fine to me as well. But I'll bet the pricetag will make me pucker up too ? If money is no object, there are a lot of bikes I'd ride until they ceased to work.

I agree. This summer, the Historic Roswell Criterium (part of the NRC series) had it's first fixed gear only race. It was pretty cool.
The Breed is really cool, but it's a CX bike with CX gearing, geometry, and components.

Maybe I'll bring it up to the organizers for Austin's Driveway Crit series sometime this winter and see if we can't do a testrun SS/FG crit race during our crit series next summer.
