Commuting - Dang it, I ate **** on my clips

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Left my biking shoes at work, which are modified soccer cleats with the cleats shaved. They are inexpensive with smooth tops and slick soles, perfect for sliding in and out of clips. Had to use running shoes instead, the kind with the soles sticking out all around, unnecessary seams all over the place, and thick shoelaces. Long story short I had to make and abrupt stop and it ended up being more abrupt than intended :twitchy:
Even after I threw my shoulder first to protect the bike (leather handlebar tape and seat) it didn't physically hurt. My pride on the other hand got dragged through the gutter

Platform pedals FTW!!!!
Platform pedals and Power Grips.
Adidas Sambas.. indoor soccer shoes with no cleats, semi-stiff soles, no need to modify. Works great with clips.

I have half clips on my Felt, and just platforms on my other bikes. I'm pretty sure I'm taking the half clips off. They're better than full clips, but still a pain to get into. If the pedals on the Felt don't feel right, I'll have to find some that are "stickier".
I came to this conclusion after buying an old (95 ish) Trek 850 mountain bike to ride around my neighborhood. It had horrible plastic pedals. I got a pair of Diamondback Bigfoots for under $20 on Amazon, and put them on. Those things feel like my feet are glued to them.
I got power grips on my heavy tourer bike and they work fine. For the lightweight road/rando bike I prefer clips. While both do well with off the saddle stumping, I rather do it on the clips.
I'll look at the sambas. From now on I want to keep an extra pair just in case.
