Despite many negative reviews, ive been riding Conti gp 4000s clinchers, and dont have a single complaint. After 2,000 miles they are still in great condition, and will probably go for another 1,500. The compound offers excellent cornering, and grip in wet conditions, and the tires make the ride feel very stable. Not to mention the second to none wear on these things. Like I said if you rotate them I wouldnt be surprised if they go for 3,500 to 4,000 miles.

While I don't particularly like the tires and prefer Michelin PR3s, I think the majority of people like the Conti tires. I've rarely seen negative reviews.

I like those tires too but Gfman, you must be very light and using that tire on your front wheel, and be very lucky. I don't know anyone that's gotten that kind of milage out of any tire.

In terms of price/performance, I have gotten a lot out of Schwalbe Blizzards. They're cheaper than Conti GP4s and about as durable.

I've got a 6 month old GP4000S in the back with roughly 5-6k miles on it. Getting a bit long in the tooth with 4 punctures but still feels pretty good.

i dont have any experience with race tubies, but i have a lot of mileage with a lot of different clinchers and gp4000s are my faves by a lot.

i got my first set in early spring, and so far have only rotated through once, so my current rear is my original front with at least 5K miles on it. im 165-170.

Michelin PR3s blow chunks. i used em for 50 miles got 2 flats. threw them away.

I used 2 pairs Rubino Pros before that and got 1500-2000 miles per pair with 1 flat in that time.

Rode a pair of the conti gp 4000s for about 10 months, ~3k miles, then started to get some flats in the back so got some new tires, some ones. Been running strong since I got 'em again and up to 1300miles now with one flat, and that was on an indoor trainer. /shrug

Schwalbe Ultremos are nice.

schwalbes are the smoothest clinchers ive ridden but the pair i got lasted about 500 miles.

definitely a race tire and not a training tire.

Thanks for asking, I don't get it either. I would do that on a commuter maybe but not on my racing bike. The rear tire gets a flat spot and doesn't seem to me like it would be good cornering on the front.

When I raced clinchers I loved the Pro Race 2's and panaracer xtreeme's.

Right. Just replace the rear when it's worn. The front lasts twice as long as the rear any way so overall wear is the same.

but you can go front to back, when your front is worn buy a new front and put the current front tire no the back.

two advantages are you dont replace the front more often than necessary AND you never run a really worn out front tire, so youre somewhat less likely to have a catatrophic failure of your front tire.
