Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - An introduction and a search for bay area riding partners

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi all. I live in Walnut Creek and just bought my first road bike to replace an old Trek Su1000 I used to tool around on. The new bike is an '06 Scott Speedster S30 in great condition with an all 105 drive train with an Ultegra r/d. I'm 5'11" and 245 lbs. Plan to use biking to drop some of that weight off. Marriage, a new kid, a new job and a move from southern california have conspired to interrupt any workout schedule I used to have. I hope to ride my first century in the spring of '11. I'm definitely interesting in meeting bay area riding partners at my same level of ability (i.e. rank newbie)

I live close by, sort of, just across the bridge in Benicia. I ride a department store bike, Novarra, that has taken me on a century and a few metrics. i still consider myself a newbie. I definitely need to drop weight (5'8" and 215 lbs) and reverse my diabetes type 2. On my last metric (2007), I was around 190 lbs and no diabetes. After my wife and I had our 2nd kid, I pretty much stopped riding and I immediately put on 40 lbs! Now I'm working on building my miles back up; just doing 10 miles at a time whenever I can.

Post an intro in the Northern CA section, if you haven't already done so. I'm sure you'll get takers to ride with you. I can hit the road with you if you don't mind starting off slow. Drop me a PM if you want to ride.

Hey. Apparently i cant pm until i hit 50 post, but sounds like were in similar boats. I've rode twice since the new bike purchase. Also about 10mi each time averaging a little better than 10mph. Weekends are best for me just because of work (lawyer). I'd love to get together and ride sometime.

Weekends are best for me too due to business travel. We can ride here in Benicia where there are some hills or down your way on Iron Horse, etc. Drop me an email when you want to get together (cpunkfunk@gmail.com).
