My bike only came with a rear brake. Is there any way I can convert it to a front brake? I will be skidding so I figure I need a front brake more than rear.

If I can't do that, what are some nice front brakes? Would the quality make a lot of difference?

Yes, most likely you'll just need a long recessed nut. Take it to your LBS and get one.

He said he has a Fuji Feather in another post but not clue what brake he's using...maybe stock Tektro?

Why the Feather comes stock with only a rear brake is beyond me. You'll need to disassemble your caliper and reinstall a longer bolt, that's all. I recently did the same thing to a Feather that came in at the shop.

The 2011 has Promax brakes front & rear:

Yes its the fuji feather stock brake. I will take it to the LBS and ask if they can convert it. If I bought the bike from Performance, would they convert the rear brake into a front brake for me?

Just buy another one for the front, probably had on ebay inexpensively. Then you'll have a match set ?

somewhat related (but not really)

on my 80s centurion frame, the brake bridge wont accept more modern rear brakes, the bolt is way too short, and the nut wont fit in the hole in the back of the bridge. so i need to use a front, longer reach brake in the back. thats my story and im sticking to it! ;p

Never know when you'll go to SS freewheel because of worn tires ? What a LBS shop charges to mod the rear to the front, I'll bet they suggest just putting a new front brake on, maybe even trade out the hardware with labor ? Makes no sense to destroy one for the sake of a modification ? SS freewheel he'll want the other 25% of the stopping power of the rear wheel anyway. Sounds like he wants stopping power up front at the very least SS/FG ?
