1 down and 3 to go. This last week has been hell for me at work and at home. Thanks goodness it is over. The wedding went without a hitch. but I forgot my speech in my Jeep at the chruch because I rode to the reception with my wife. I told her we did not need to go back, I would just wing it. I have no fear of public speaking, or not usually, because I am a teacher and lecture. There aint that much difference in a room with 30 people and 300, except I rarely teach a hughe class, mine are usually small, and I dont need a microphone. Well we walked into the reception hall and there was already probably 300 people there, I expected closer to 30. Wow, kinda freaks me out, so many people, no outline to keep me focused and it was about stuff I am not used to talking about, like emotional, daughter stuff. No time to write out an outline before the food and the MC guy sticks the mike in my hand, saying it is Dads time for the speech and the toast. If you have never done the Step father speech at the wedding thing 5 minutes is excessive and they can either be funny or very emotional. I just aint emotional, at least in public. SO I start talking, I can remember a lot of what I had written and had got a couple of laughs and was begining to think I might survive. One of the jokes was about an equiptment failure with the dress that kinda made like a Janet Jackson withoout the super bowl. I was doing very well, a minute into it, had gotten a couple of laughs and was thinking I might survive it. My oldest daughter, the one not getting married was sitting right in front of me and started making the hand gesture for raise something up. You know, raising her hand saying pull it up or something like that. Finally I could not ignore her anymore and had lost my place anyway, and everyone could see her making that getsure. Finally I looked right at her and said , "What?" what do you want me to do?" She says "raise up the microphone, the people in back probably cant hear you." I said, "Oh, thank goodness, I thought you were saying to zip my fly, now that would have been embarrasing." The place busted up. They thought we had rehearsed it. I mumbled a little about good luck and congratations and turned the microphone back over the the MC. Whew.

Actually no, I started out this AM with a 5k jog. Plan to ride in the AM. I like the word kerfuffle. Tommorow is suppose to be just as nice as today, and I am off work. It is good being me.

Blessings to your family! I know how stressful weddings can be. I just hope the young couple waits a while before grandkids start coming; give you a chance to settle into the role!

Congrats on the wedding! I'm sure that everything you have been prior to the wedding and everything you said at the wedding was great. ME, 2 down and 3 to go. WHEW! The granpy title is a wonderful thing.

That sounds like it was a fun reception.

Of course you know that people will remember your speech because it was so funny. Now they'll expect the same level of performance at your other kids' weddings.
