As you can see in the picture, I just lean my bike against the wall,

and I'm tired of marking the walls in my apartment. I need recommendations on a rack or whatever contraption to store my bike. Preferably, the device can also allow me to stabilize the bike for basic maintenance tasks as well.

Why don't you put on a kick stand? That's how my bike stays at home.

Here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?650179-How-do-you-store-your-bikes) is another thread on this. The methods folks use there don't seem applicable for me. I am also looking for a simple rack that does not occupy much space so that I can have the rear wheel off the floor when lubing the chain.

That's what I do too. I have a second bike in the other corner. It's good if there's nothing on TV I can lube my chain or whatever.

Believe it or not, there is a little lever that you can attach near the bottom bracket of your bike. This lever is long enough that it can be folded down and the bike will lean over on it. It becomes completely self supporting. When you are done needing the bike to support itself you can just fold the lever up and it will ride along with you ready for the next time you need it. I believe it was called a kick-stand back when I was a kid...but now I'm sure there is a more technical name for it.....:lol:
