Hi,
I'm looking at getting a fixed wheel set, and was wondering if it's possible to run a front brake with this type of rim:

Thanks for the help.

By the pictures, it is non-machined, meaning no braking surface. You want a wheelset with the front rim machined.

Thanks for that

That is a heavy wheelset.

You can run a brake on a non-machined rim(every one did until the late 80s when the process was developed) but you wont have as much stopping power, wear pads quicker, have an awful noise, and dirty up your pretty white rims.

Wow yeah it is. I'll take it one further and say that's a really heavy wheelset. You can probably do better for the money.

You can run brakes on a non-machined rim. I'm pretty sure it would be the same as an old steel rim (?)

For 185 USD you'd be better off getting a solid B43/Formula set from Velomine: http://www.velomine.com/

I just skimmed the ebay listing really quickly and saw "Weight 1430" and was about to call you guys out for being crazy calling that a heavy wheelset.

Then I realized that was just the rear wheel.

Agreed. You don't need to spent a ton of money but don't skimp on wheels.
