Almost every day, I walk through some part of Haarlem with another guy from work. We often take the same routes, but recently have started wandering down streets we have not been down before. [N.B. This is one of the best parts of living over here.]

Today we stumbled upon a neat little bike shop. Here is their URL: http://www.tmannetje.nl/nederlandstalig/reparatie_frame.htm

Look at the "Pedersen" section, and click on the left hand bike. Pretty neat - a space frame, unique seat with suspension.

One thing we saw in the shop, but not on the Web site, is a very unique leather saddle. Made in the Eastern part of the country, it is decidedly utilitarian, unlike the more sporty Brooks (which is the only other leather one I have seen). You can see that at http://www.lepper.nl/

Hope you enjoy this site.

Cheers...Gary

Yesterday I was in a distant town, visiting someone in the hospital. When they brought her lunch (liquified fish  ) I took a walk outside. There is a small Schwinn shop in the town, so I dropped in. As I stepped inside the door, I was greeted by the smell of a bike shop: axle grease, chain oil, metal, rubber, and some unindentifiable essence. I love that scent.

English readers interested in the Pedersen can go to:

The bike was designed back in the bicycle boom of the 1890s. Unlike a lot of other experimental designs from that era, it is still around.
