Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Would a kilo TT be a good commuter bike in NYC?

Once you find that out, look for one that fits that then buy it.

Lots of Kilos floating around the city. Should hold up fine as a commuter. As far as other alternatives....Any of the other BikesDirect ss/fg bikes would work just as well. Some come with brakes, which could be helpful.

Would I need fenders and does it come with the ability to add a rear rack?

I've seen Kilos with a front rack, never seen one with a rear rack. As far as fenders, I like SKS Raceblades.

The fenders is up to you...but the Kilo TT can support a rear rack...snap on fenders can be an option....but must you have a fixed for a commuter?...the Mercier Galaxy is under 400$ has a great frame and comes with a rear rack....and can support tires much larger than the kilo...BTW...I own both of these bikes...and both are commuting bikes. It just depends on the day!
