Hi, my name is Jamie and I'm in a tough situation at the moment... I think...

Anywho, I'm currently riding a 1983 Honda Shadow VT500 which has been my pride and joy since I started riding this summer. I've put around 10,000 km (not joking) on her since. She's an amazing bike, great for starting out, no regrets at all. I want to upgrade to something A LOT bigger than a 500 though.

I have my eyes on a few 750s out there but after checking out a small dealership in Ajax, I found a nice 1998 Shadow ACE and 2008 Shadow Aero which were looking mighty tempting, but for the heck of it I sat on a 2005 Yamaha Road Star 1700. It felt so perfect! Everything is where I want it to be (although I'd like to take off the heel gear shift).

I can't stop thinking about her. She seems like a great bike, in great condition, perfect for my size, and being a 1700, she's a keeper. Maybe I'm being too naive and this is WAY too big a jump in engine size to risk.

Advice from more experienced riders? Maybe someone else has been in this position before?

P.S. Biggest bike ridden so far was my buddy's Dad's 2010 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Lo 1600. A beast of a machine, but not my dream bike.

Wrong forums buddy :)

But a Japanese/Euro bike and a Harley are WORLDS apart. Harleys are more for cruising and show. They don't handle as well, say a BMW/Ducati/Honda.

Cruisers suck, get a dual sport. I love my F650GS, it takes me everywhere I wanna go.

BTW - this is a bicycle forum!

Honda NT650 ftw! after that, it's MV Agusta or bust. and Ducati after Cagiva (and the elephant) is just not as sweet as it used to be.

otoh, you could sell you motorcycle and buy a proper two-wheeler, like i did. it's the future.
