Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Please help me find a SS hub for dirt jumping

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi all. I have been searching for a single speed hub for my dirt jumping MTB, but have only found 2 that are questionable.

It needs to have disc brake mounts, either threads for a freewheel or a cassette body that is meant for only 1 cog, and 36 holes for spokes.

I was hoping to find a hub similar to those BMX hubs where the cog is super tiny, but I have not found anything similar. Only these:

Nashbar "Cassette" Hub (http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_174027_-1___])

DMR Revolver SS Hub (http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=10631)

I am pretty sure both of those are fixed gear though :notamused:

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Wouldn't any disc hub fulfil your requirement?

I mean, you could easily turn a cassette disc hub into a singlespeed hub with a cog and spacers.

How much do you want to spend?

The DMR hub is not for fixed gear and would work fine for jumping.

This DMR hub (http://www.dmrbikes.com/?Section=products&pageType=item&category=10&CategoryName=Hubs&itemid=HUB6PSSMC) has a BMX-style driver, though I don't see the advantage. Might have to order it from the UK.

The Hope hub is really nice, but expensive. (http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=17038&category=1703) It is cassette-style for a single cog.

The Atomlab hub (http://www.atomlab.com/mtbdjhubs.html) takes single cogs like the Hope. Specifically designed for DJ. ~$190.

There are a lot of options out there.

Get this, don't look back. Its the best.

Plus if you want a rear carrier that will fit tiny cogs, this one goes down to 12. You don't want a threaded FW hub since the smallest you can currently buy is a 16t. AC used to make a 15t but that is long gone and out of production.

Plus, for serious duty, I would get a WI FW anyway, the AC was never sealed that well.

Get the DMR Revolver. I had one laced to a 24" FUNN BMX rim on a Norco mountain bike. that hub is pretty bombproof.

i would recommend going to mtbr.com or pinkbike.com there are a lot of people who dirt jump, many (or even most) on single speeds. there are a ton of parts for that market, but you aren't going to find more than a couple people here in what is 95% road-only fixed gear kids who are knowledgeable about dirt jumping.

This is the wrong forum for DJ questions man. Try Pinkbike.
