So I have been riding on fixies for about 3 months now. I am looking to get a bit of a better set up. My main question is just for opinions on a good bike to start with. I am not looking to drop more than hopefully $600. I have seen the Bianchi Pistas, Mercier Kilo, SE Draft, etc. Just wondering maybe some pros and cons and what people like and ride...thanks in advance guys!!

what do you currently ride? Perhaps a few upgrades to that would be better suited for you.
If you really want a _new_ bike, it totally depends on the type of riding you plan on doing, but as I'm sure most will say, ignore things that are Hi-Ten, such as the SE Draft.

3 months isnt that long. I still feel new after 3 years in cycling

Yeah, I have heard some bad things about the SE Draft. I also saw that last silver Bianchi...its nice. I currently ride a 2010 Vilano fixie. Very standard and beginner. Not that I am not still, but I have more money to drop now and would like something that will last a little while. A LBS said I can get a hook up on mission bike frames(San Fran, CA). They seem nice, but that might go a little more than what I wanted to spend. Not trying to kill the wallet, just get a nice bike and if I have to replace some of the things thats fine, but not looking to drop a bunch of cash at the time, so I need something more durable....what about those salsa casserelo or whatever??

I am in the same situation as well. Although I only have my ss for 2 months, I feel I need a better bike, lighter and faster. I looked and found Bianchi fixie is the best because it just has that classy look to it. I am thinking of keeping it for as long as possible and the frame itself is a classic already.


dosEtwO, those mission bicycles are real eye candies. I see a quite of few of them here and I can never take my eyes off them. However, I think they are too trendy for my taste.

That Bianchi Pista is not a classic frame...it only has the champion stripes and the Bianchi name that everyone go crazy about.

Well I know a guy around here who can get me the mission frame, etc for pretty cheap, and they make quality stuff it seems. Trendy or not thats a brand new frame and fork for less than a pista, etc. But I am trying to hear others opinions and keep my options open for now....

I like that on Mission's website you can configure a SS with no brakes... and it'll only cost you $900.... sweet deal.

yes, get the cachet and call it a day. be sure to say 'sup' to every fixed gear rider you meet on the street, and ask them "how are you skids coming?"

that's how they'll know you're not an uneducated newbie.

I saw a couple on campus recently; majorty of which had decals stripped. Too bad they reeked of walmart from afar.
