Mountain Biking - Any girl MTBers out there?

I recently got involved in mountain biking after being a roadie for a few years and I noticed that I don't see many other women out there on the trails, so I was wondering if there were any on this forum and what bikes they ride.

I do. And there are a couple women in the women's forum who have mountain bikes. Really, there are quite a few badass mountain biker girls out there...just not so much on this forum.

Welcome to the mountain bike world! What kind of bike are you riding now?

I ride a Kona Cinder Cone.

There are some MTBing ladies in the Clyde/Athena thread. That is a good thread even if you don't qualify.

I see the number difference as well. Most of the ladies I see riding in the dirt are with boyfriends or husbands. May be a tad " careful" about getting out in the boonies with boys. That is just a guess. Could be the chances of breaking a nail increase on the dirt.

I ride with some very strong women in the dirt. One of them is a Cat3 cyclocross champion and she rides a Specialized Epic when mtb'ing.
One of the others is valleygirl on bike forums, she has an old Stumpjumper and the third has a new Kona Lisa.
All 3 of them are great climbers on the road, too.

I ride with some ladies that absolutely rip. They are out there, and not just riding with their guys. Most of these ladies ride harder and do more/bigger moves than a lot of guys I know.

I actually spent all summer racing mountain bikes (and a little road & now cyclocross). Oddly, I've never been worried about breaking a nail - but I do get worried about wrecking my bike...

I ride a 2009 Turner Flux frame that I bought & then built up (with a little help from my husband). It's purdy & rides like a dream.

Glad to see that there are others out there. :-). I ride an 2010 Cannondale woman's F5 that I've upgraded with a new wheelset, carbon bars, carbon hydraulic brakes and a few other little things. Next move is a new crank. I'm seriously considering going 1x 9.

I ride with the North Ranch Mountain Bike Club and they have plenty of women, some of them very hardcore DH types. About half of the ride leaders are women, actually, and they occasionally host women only rides. There are also plenty of women with the Pasadena Mountain Bike Club I rode with once. There are plenty of them out there, seemingly the same ratio as road biking if you ask me.

hi there, i ride with a group in northwestern connecticut. there are definitely more guys than gals, but we have a few that ride regularly. i ride a trek fuel ex8 for XC and a trek session 88 at the mountain for downhilling. i love getting all sweaty and muddy out on the trails. riding with the guys definitely gives me the right attitude and motivation, but i really like it when i meet fellow female riders who enjoy it as much as i do.

Hmmm. So, I'm curious as to the stuff in the first and third pics... Middle looks to be the progression drops at Diablo, yes?

Scrubby = Danbury resident. About the furthest north I've been is to Haviland Hollow and Mine Hill, otherwise I tend to ride more over the NY border, and south/and east of Danbury.

Edit: I think I know you after all, at least, I know we have both ridden with some of the same people.

I see alot here in WNC! In fact most the folks I ride with are ladies..............and they are hardcore riders!

I live in So Cal... home of great mountain biking and pretty much I think its 55% women out there... most are much stronger than the guys it's amazing! Alot are very hardcore... almost scary hardcore... I can't hang!

I ride two bikes, depending on terrain and season... my go-to is a Santa Cruz Superlight. A pure cross-country machine... never gives me trouble. My older bike is a Specialized Stumpjumpter M4 hardtail. Great for narrow single track and just going fast (I use this bike mostly on after work rides). So Cal offers lots of choices and terrain... generally it very steep up and then scary fast back down. There is also alot of technical singletrack to ride although nothing like that I experienced on the North RIm trip I took in June.

I really consider myself a "roadie" but more and more Ii find myself riding dirt... I love it! I have the opportunity to volunteer for the Irvine Ranch Conservacy and OC Parks and lead tours here and there. My favorites are the "kiddie" ride for age 5 and up. I love getting the kids out and away from their computers!

hey scrubby, the top pic is maine, the middle fall pic is highland in new hampshire, and the pic on the bottom with the ladder and teeter is grayville in hebron, ct. i bet we do know some of the same riders, i rode mostly up where i live near nepaug and burlington, but i also go down to trumbull and huntington.

Gotcha- you're more east than I was thinking. Huntington is my closest, though there is some other stuff over by the airport I've been checking out lately. Hooks up a bunch of separate trail areas. Trumbull and Wilton get ridden a fair bit as well. My favorites are Ninham and Miller's Pond by far, though.
