Electric Bikes - Another Pusher Trailer

I've been wanting to install a hub motor in my Bob (single wheel) trailer since before I bought it, but last summer's touring finally got me off my thumb and commit. The JVBike crew have a Crytalyte hub in a 16" wheel with a 1.75 Marathon Plus tire and are mounting an Ezee 36V Li-ion battery in the center of the trailer bed. I have Catrike Trail and love the downhills and the flats but the hills (camping gear and stuff) can be slow .......:giver: ..... going.
Any others out there with similar projects and your/their experiances, Pro's and Con's...........Thanks

What size AH is the battery?
Pro: 16" wheel requires less power (re: torque) to move wheel..(compared to let's say a 24" wheel)

Con: depends on the AH of the battery as to how much range it gives you. If you're only going to use it for a couple of miles, just about any size lifepo4 will work

For touring? Man, unless you were talking about inn to inn trips (you mentioned camping gear) where you could easilly charge up every night, it sure seems to me that internal combustion would make a lot more sense for that. Admittedly, I have no experience with any type of motorized bikes except dreaming, so I could be way off base.

If you're loaded up, and using the motor for only the uphills(and you pedal with it), youl probably get about 10miles of uphill help.

Yeah, that's easy, get a bigger battery.
My 36v 15ah batt gets me 21 miles of non-pedaling riding

Of course there are no hills in Florida, but that's whAt I get..
(my bike and all added items, including myself, weighs about 300lbs.. And as with everything else... "your mileage may vary"

I must admit, a 9.6 ah battery does seem to be a bit low for what you are trying to do......... with camping gear, how do you propose to charge the battery???

I'm such a novice at this...... need to get the numbers right, 36V 25AH Li-ion Batt., and a 36V 9.6A Battery charger...I hope thats correct. Sorry still learning...........

If he has regen capability a modest sized battery might actually workout OK.

Sorry to change the subject, but that fairing sure looks comfy. Do you only use it seasonally, or were some of those pics from before you got it?
And good luck with your extended range quest- I`d help if I could, but like I said... outa my experience.

Bought the fairing the same time I got the trike (July '09- 4,500K so far). I got the trailer before the mid-summer tour knowing I would be camping and to haul all that stuff would require more cargo room than my trike could provide. It was recommended that the use of the fairing would be counter-productive, the fairings aero-dynamic's really don't kick in until around 15 to 20K (manufacturer says not to exceed 40K (25mph)with the trailer, although I did frequently) and the wasted weight drag uphill decided for me to leave it at home. However the 2nd tour later in our summer was forecast for rains and the fairing works very well as a rain shield. My feet to my waist is mostly dry even in some of our heavier rain conditions. But as often happens around here, the forecasts couldn't have been more wrong, we had beautiful weather and wore shorts all 4 days.........the fairing works very well with keeping the early morning chill off as well...........here's a few more pic's from that last tour
