I have a manitou fork and am thinking of buying some discs on ebay. I was told the mount is not the normal mount? Not sure what was meant by this. Anyone know of any problems with mounting calipers on this fork? It is the axle model. Low end fork that came with the bike. Thanks.

You need manitou specific mounts. It is different.

Hey Maelstrom, are you sure? My Avids mount directly without any extra hardware. I actually had to remove the mounting bracket that came with the brakes, since it wasn't needed......So not sure what you meant by Manitou's needing specific mounts???????

Dude, I wanna see a pic of that craziness! Manitou's are direct mounts. They don't require any extra hardware! Maybe if you upgrade to an 8" rotor but this dude's got an Axel, Manitou's bottom of the line. I can't imagine that's what he want's to do.

You know my heart brotha...
yeah dude manitou forks are not the same as the international standard disc brake mounts, the two bolts that are on manitou forks are mounted parallel to the wheel whereas the standard mounts, the bolts are perpendicular to the wheel.

yeah on the manitou's they have the standard inter disc mount but its for a 6 inch rotor.. if you upgrade to an 8 inch rotor then you need the mounting bracket or adapter.. i have the sherman firefly's and i use the saint 203mm disc and i have to use a mounting bracket or adapter to make the caliper work on the 203mm. other wise you should be fine with the standard mount for 6 inch rotors...
