I recently bought a new/used wheelset. I installed them after checking the cog and lockring. Installed it, check the chain line/tension; we were a.o.k. jumped on, and thought it was all good. After a few seconds i felt this almost thumping feeling in the pedals, from the rear cog. I havent a clue what it could be. I checked the cog, and it almost seem as though the teeth were bent, but i asked the guy who i bought it from, and he said that he had ridden them the day before, and didnt have an isse. Everything seems fine, i just dont get it. Im going to bring it to my LBS tomorrow, but until them i would like to get the opinion from you guys/gals.

Is it a sealed or loose ball hub?

If it's loose ball, sounds like the hub is too tight.

If possible, use a different cog and see if the problem persists--if so, it must be a wheel problem.

its either love or the dark side of the force.

try reducing the chain tension. It may be too tight.

After furrther evaluation, it looks like the chain isnt the right size for the cog. It gets stuck on the cog, and not all the teeth sit flush with it.

Ah...the old 3/32" chain on a 1/8" cog trick.

so what happens when you run 1/8 chain on a 3/32 fw/cog? The dbag at performance put a 332 fw and 1/8 cog on my 1/8 drivetrain.

Supernova!

I haven't ridden on it yet, so no supernova. He just told me that was what he put on, and that the 3/32 FW would be ok. I just don't know about the mix n match.

a 1/8" chain will be fine on a 3/32" freewheel, dont worry.

Nothing...or something, depending on how you look at it.

think you could be more vague? I get the idea though.
